1. Barely Afloat in the Penance Boat

By William Fuller and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Bless me, father
Adrift, eyes down
For I have sinned
Bless me, mother
Who gets the raft?
For where I've been

it's been years
The captain was mad
Since I've been here
I don't remember
Some knew despair
We all knew fear

Chorus:
A ship of sin
A sip of gin
A ship of sadness
A sip of gladness
Barely afloat
In the penance boat

Forgive me my friend
We both may fall
As Medusa grins
Boat in the distance
Gave me hope
When I looked up again

Chorus

For different reasons
Kneeling now
Kneeling then
Half dead
Today I rise
With penance and a last amen

Chorus

02. When I Held You

By William Fuller and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

The world would gasp
When I held you
There were no stars
When I held you
We both felt young
When I held you
We'd lose the scars

When I held you
We spun a tale
That madness dared
To call insane
When I held you
We called its bluff
And laughed outside
In the pouring rain

The place that scared us
The silent scream
The immaculate sin
The deep sad dream

The ticking clock
Just had to stop
The perfect light
Just had to fade
But a new day dawns
And joy will come
And take its stand
With what we've made

The place that scared us
The silent scream
The immaculate sin
The deep sad dream
Would disappear
Would all turn blue
Would fade away

When I held you
We spun a tale
That madness dared
To call insane
But a new day dawns
And joy will come
And take its stand
With what we've made

The place that scared us
The silent scream
The immaculate sin
The deep sad dream

03. The Human Mess

By Gary Sears and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

And if I had the space, I'd reorganize the whole human race
But the time we have just seems to get shorter
And the space around keeps gettin' filled with contorters
All the people around don't know which end is down
And the people on top just let the money go round and round

Finding a way to impress
This whole human mess

Now if you've got two wackies, and you asked them or their handlers or lackies
Why they do what they do, and if it makes them happy or gets them blue
And they'll have a drink and they'll have one more
And you might be thinking they'll be a bore
And they'll get lost explaining some other thing
Until they look just like a puppet on a string

But they're only dealing with the stress
Of being in the whole human mess

Bridge:
Now I'm feeling like I don't have much to say
About being mad or sane or any other which way
About whether I should like you or tell you to go away
About whether it's time to sing or cry or stomp or pray

Or go into a full court press
Against this whole human mess

Now next time you're in town, let's find some time to hang around
Don't need any special thrill, find a place to be chill
We may be crazier than some people we know
But me and thee still have some facts to show
But if we try this and try that and try just a little more
We might get a glimpse of something else in store

Other than tearing our hair out in distress
About this stupid human mess
Don't need no skeleton in fancy dress
To save you from this human mess

04. Flirting With the Rorschach

by Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

That my mind is empty right now
I'm either frozen with fear
Or obsessing on some sacred cow

Chorus:
Can I see what I was missing
If I just unfold your page
Maybe I would have been whole
Born into another age

Is it a cardinal sin
That I really don't know what to think
Does this blot make me look fat
Maybe I'm someone else's gobolink

Chorus

Are you the one
That's showing the dirty pictures -
Or have I been
Adding too much vinegar to the mixture?

My motives are right on top
I just want to run your table
And the paper won't show what I am
And every picture tells a fable

05. The Happy Happy Man

By Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

The day felt fresh and new
I didn't read the paper
I'm happier than you

I didn't watch the television
I didn't turn on the news
Nothing there seemed seems important to me
I'm happier than you

The way I am feel today
Should not be permitted
I'm so crazy with joy
I should be committed
Said the happy, happy man

I don't believe my lying eyes
And I haven't got a clue
My mind's made up, don't confuse me with facts
I'm happier than you

You say there is no justice in the world
Maybe for the chosen few
It may not seem fair, but I don't care
I'm happier than you

The way I feel today
Should not be permitted
I'm so crazy with joy
I should be committed
Said the happy, happy man

06. In Seine They Smile With Wild Eyes
(Lunching With The Boat People)

By William Fuller and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Not far from gay Paree
In Seine we waded
Munching tarts and brie

Smiling with wild eyes
At where we'd just sat
Gustave brought his dog
Aline her favorite cat

Chorus:
I tried to catch her eye
As I swatted at a bee
I'd love to know why
These folks keep staring at me

Alphonsine owns a restaurant
Charles does his art
We waded with abandon
By our boat in the park

With longing and sad eyes
Monsieur Le Bazoo blew his nose
He seemed to be upset
In his wet, wet clothes

Chorus

Resplendent in my chapeau
Giggling with a sigh
Insane we waded
Under a gorgeous sky

Chorus

07. In The Dry

By Jack Hastings and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

I need a drop of rain
To fall upon my face
And wash away the dust
All that's left of this place

Just one cloud in the sky
To hide the bitter sun
A blade of green green grass
The taste of Springtime on my tongue

Chorus:
Well, I'm deep into the dry
On the burning sand raised high
And as the blood red sun goes down
I will wear the fiery crown
I am deep into the dry

King of all that meets my eye
In the dust is writ my fate
Lord and master of the dry
Ruler of this endless waste

On my knees I pray for rain
But it was never meant for me
Only sand and sun remain
I'll never feel the touch of green

Chorus:
Well, I'm deep into the dry
On the burning sand raised high
And as the blood red sun goes down
I will wear the fiery crown
I am deep into the dry
As the blood red sun goes down
I will wear the fiery crown
I am deep into the dry

08. Snakepit Dandelion

by Jack Hastings and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Snakepit Dandelion stepped on a landmine
Tasted like mercury salt and turpentine
Went for a drive and never came back
Left me a note on the railroad track

Chorus:
Johnny, she said, you'll never be true
No matter how much love I give to you
I've had enough of your dirty little lies
Me leaving you ain't no surprise

Glycerine soft machine dancing on a mainspring
Singing 'bout the good times, living in a daydream
Went around the bend in the hurricane wind
Found her at the station and she did it again

Revelation at last, conundrum at the impasse
Eviscerated inside, a happy little homicide
Dancin' at The Terpsichore, a calibrated semaphore
Calculated gaslight obvious in hindsight

09. Unhinged

by Jack Hastings and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

You drive me crazy
Almost every damn day
One thing and another
Pouring down like the rain
You drive me crazy every day

You drive me wild
With the moves you make
Twisting and turning
A shimmy and a shake
You drive me wild that's all I'm gonna say

Chorus:
How in the hell did you get behind the wheel?
How do you make me feel the way I feel
Flying down the highway at a hundred and ten
Our love is forever, forever unhinged

You drive me to drinking
Just to numb the pain
You build me up to tear me down
A dynamite soufflé
You drive me to drinking in the middle of the day

Chorus:
How in the hell did you get behind the wheel?
How do you make me feel the way I feel
Flying down the highway at a hundred and ten
Our love is forever, forever unhinged

Gonna drive me to the poorhouse
With the things you crave
Your baubles and your bangles
Are eating up my pay
You drive me to the poorhouse in your fancy Chevrolet

How in the hell did you get behind the wheel?
How do you make me feel the way I feel
Flying down the highway at a hundred and ten
Our love is forever, forever unhinged

10. Valley Of No Regrets

by Jack Hastings and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Oh, the burdens that I carry
seem to grow with every year
And the grim mistakes that I have made
Are a weary weight to bear

Though The Lord knows that I'm sorry
it hardly seems enough
To lift the burden from my soul
And free me from his love

My regrets and me, we had a seat
on the Absolution Line
I asked them please to let me be
So I might one day find
That far-off golden valley
Where I might at last be free
From the sins of my shadowed past
And the hold they have on me

Chorus:
There is a valley
Filled with golden light
Where the trees grow
Green and tall
And the meadows
Shine like emeralds
And you can feel
The heavens call
Snow-capped peaks that reach
To a cloud-decked sky
It's the place when
All is said and done
I'll rest my head
One last and final time

To all the ones I could have loved
and would have loved in time
At such a cost, the chances lost
Were only in my mind
The past it has been written
now the ink is dry
It's time to take those pages
And toss them in the fire

Chorus

11. Kray Kray

by Spencer Kimball and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

Now I'm thinking, I really should have gone somewhere
Now I'm thinking, I really shouldn't come
Then I'm thinking, I have to get out of here
What I'm knowing, I'll never get away from

Chorus:
Kray kray on my doorstep
Kray kray all over my house
Kray kray on my doorstep
In my ears, in my eyes, in my nose, in my head

Everytime it comes, my brain is in a whirlpool
Everytime it comes, it leaves me in a funk
Anyway I can't, I'm really just a tool
Every way I go, my soul is really sunk into the

Bridge:
Up down back up reverse not
Set free hear see never got

Hey hey hey hey, gotta gotta gotta
No no no no, maybe maybe not
Not not not not lotta lotta lotta
Cold cold cold… hot hot hot…

12. A Fine Madness (L[ove]=MC2)

by William Fuller, Gary Sears and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Well, this is a fine madness
A fine bo dee yo doe
Like two bubbling rivers of lava
That converge all set to explode

A fine boiling madness
That takes away my breath
A cauldron of fire
That scares me half to death

It's the chemistry, baby baby
And the physics, too
It's the science of love
That's got me crazy over you

If we could square the circle
If we could only try
We won't just solve the problem
We'll blast across the sky

Oh how did this configure?
Will we ever suss it out?
These test tubes filled with love
I wanna scream and shout

I'm grinning like a fool
Love's roaring cross the land
I'm so glad we cracked the code
I'm a happy, happy man

It's the chemistry, baby baby
And the physics, too
It's the science of love
That's got me crazy over you

If we could square the circle
If we could only try
We won't just solve the problem
We'll blast across the sky

13. Mad Sluggo and His Brand New Pen

Music: Jack Hastings, Words: William Fuller and Ernie Bushmiller

MP3 Audio File

I decided to treat myself, Nancy (oh boy!)
I got a brand new pen
Look, it writes underwater. (So what?}
I'll write letters to my dear fish friend

Chorus:
The red red wagon that took him away
Was pulled around the bend
By a guy dressed in yellow and gray
Farewell mad Sluggo and his brand new pen

My new pen writes on wood (ya don't say)
See here? It also writes on glass
And it even writes on cement (uh huh)
I think I'll take it to class

Chorus

It also writes on fur (ho hum)
And it even writes on snakes
Ain't it wonderful? (I got one better
Mine writes with icing on cakes)

Chorus

14. The Door of Perception

by William Fuller

MP3 Audio File

Thank you for saying
You're sorry
And thank you for saying
It wasn't all just in my head

The door of perception
Was hung with such care
But now it's coming down
From a wall that was never there

Unhinged
They said that I was unhinged
They said that I was unhinged

Thank you for staying
Beyond the expiration date
And thank you for staying
When the time was getting late

The door of perception
Was hung with such care
But now it's coming down
From a wall that was never there

Unhinged
They said that I was unhinged
They said that I was unhinged

15. A Night With No Moon

by William Fuller and Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File (Available Soon)

You came at me
You spit in my face
You pissed on my dreams
You gave me no grace

You brought out your bargain
You brought out your chains
The writing's on the wall
The picture's in the frame

Chorus:
The reckoning's almost here
It's coming real soon
With a harsh cold wind
On a night with no moon

The blessing's in the bottle
I hold it to my chest
You took away my friends
And left me with the rest

You packed your bag with nooses
You slicked back your hair
With Brylcreem and a toothbrush
But those horns are still there

Chorus

And so it's back to the crossing
The place I let you in
Where you filled me with your lies
And piled on the sins

Chorus

16. Old Mr. Python

by Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File (Available Soon)

When the devil is out dancing
And you hear the nightshade call
Mr. Python may come knocking
And tapping at your walls

He slithers and he slides
Straight down Salvation Street
His tongue is out, it darts about
For a taste of something sweet
Better lock your doors and light your sage
Mr. Python's coming with his jaws agape

He shines in every flicker
Of the neon light
Glding through the alley,
No end to him in sight

Looking for a sacrifice
To swallow them up whole
If you catch that steely eye,
Down his gullet you will go
Be you saint or sinner, don't take no account
You'll wind up in his belly when he opens up his mouth

Break:
Oh no, Old Mr. Python
Oh no, Don't say his name
Oh no, It's all snakes and ladders
Oh no, You lost the game
Down in the belly of the python
You just fade away
Once he had a big fat belly
Now he's thin as a rake
